Top of the World

Barely a month after setting a new Club record of 2:11:41 in the Seville marathon, Alex Milne (above centre) won the World 50km Championships in New Delhi today (14 March), leading the Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to victory, and setting a new European record of 2:46:09 (subject to ratification) in the process in the warm (21°C) and humid conditions. It was an exceptional day for both the men’s and women’s teams as Naomi Robinson took the women’s title, with the team also coming home first.

The event was originally due to take place in December, but was postponed just two weeks beforehand due to poor air quality.

Meanwhile at the Valley

Also on 14 March, Lisa Thomas led off the W60 4 x 400m team which set a World Indoor Masters record at Lee Valley (to be ratified) in a special race staged within the Inter Area event. The squad sliced over 10 seconds from the previous record, setting a time of 4:32.6.

It was another stellar performance from Lisa and her team-mates, following on from their World outdoor W60 4 x 400m record at the European Championships in Madeira in October.
