Inter-County Gold for Theo - again!
U15 Theo Creed (left) won a second Inter-County cross country title at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, on 7 March, the same venue at which he took the U13 title in 2024. In doing so he led the Surrey team, which included HW club-mate James Fraser in 27th, to the silver medals. Ruby Carter, in 13th was the third Surrey scorer in the Senior Women's team which won the gold medals, while Anna Wait, in 25th in the U15 Girls race was second-scorer in the team which took the bronze medals. Jessica Wood was 77th and just outside the scoring-four.

Swift Halves
Also at the weekend, there was a raft of excellent half-marathon times from the Club's senior men, boding well for the Southern 12-Stage Relays at the end of March. In Paris Freddie Hessian entered the all-time Club rankings in fifth, clocking 65:16. Charlie Sandison, competing in Inverness (where the race doubles as the Scottish Championships) finished in second in 65:29, to go seventh on the list. Oli Carrington ran 67:31 at Paddock Wood with George Mallett finishing in Kent in 67:52, and Joe Bryant in 68:51 in Cambridge.
The Penney and Ruby Show
Andrew Penney and Ruby Carter continued to re-write the record books at the Friday Night Under the Lights 5K in Battersea Park on 27 February. Andrew, who already tops the all-time men's 5K list, thanks to a PB over the same course in November, took the race on against multiple full-time athletes, and was leading into the final straight where he was narrowly edged out by Charlie Wheeler to finish in a PB of 13:49. So tight was the finish that the first three were given the same time, making them joint leaders in the UK Rankings for 2026.
Meanwhile in the elite women's race, Ruby Carter finished in 11th in 16:26 to break the Women's all-time record set by Ellen Weir in 2022.
