West Ham United may have taken over the London Stadium, where they were busy beating Southampton last Sunday, but athletics was right back where it belongs in Olympic Park as for the first time the Southern (SEAA) 12/6 stage Relays were staged around its paths in the shadow of the Velodrome. The Club's teams were out in force, with the Men's A team finishing a fantastic fourth to match last year's position.

The Senior Men won the Surrey Cross Country League title for the third time, overhauling Guildford & Godalming’s 24-point lead in the final showdown in Lloyd Park on Saturday, 11 February, with team captain Fred Slemeck sealing the individual honours thanks to his super-consistent performance over the four matches.

More success for the Senior Men’s team who clinched the bronze medals at the Southern Cross Country Championships at Beckenham Place Park today – the first team medal for 49 years!

The Senior Men got off to a great start to the New Year, winning the Surrey County Cross Country Championships at Lloyd Park yesterday (7 January). Team Captain Freddie Slemeck also bagged the individual bronze medal; and there were team silvers for both the U13 Boys and U13 Girls, with Thomas Whorton taking the individual U13 Boys silver medal, and Isabella Harrison the U13 Girls bronze medal. U20 Ellen Weir also had a great run, coming home fifth in the Senior Women's race.

Alex Milne shaved a sliver from his best marathon time in Valencia on 4 December as he came home in 64th place in 2:17:40.

Congratulations to the Senior Men’s team of Andrew Penney, Fred Slemeck, Ed Mallett and Finn Johnson who were crowned SEAA London Cross Country Champions on Parliament Hill last weekend.

Answering the captain’s rallying call, the Senior Men’s team overhauled a 101 point deficit in Match 2 of the Surrey Cross Country League on Wimbledon Common – a result which sends them to the top the League.

The Senior Men staged a grandstand finish to clinch an excellent 9th place at the National Road Relays in Sutton Park, Birmingham, yesterday (8 October).

The Club’s teams were out in force on Saturday for the unofficial Southern Road Relay Championships at Aldershot. The Senior Men’s A team finished in a brilliant sixth place and the B team in a fantastic 17th.

Victory in the final SAL match of the season at Tooting Bec on Saturday saw the Club complete a clean sweep of five out of five wins to finish at the top of Division 2 West and secure promotion to the First Division for next season.

The U20 Men’s 4 x 100m team of Jaleel Roper, Dominic Smith-Fray, Marcus Gayle and Freddie Arkell set a new Championship Record at the Surrey Relay Championships at Carshalton over the weekend of 3/4 September.

The Club took one step closer to achieving promotion to the first division of the Southern Athletics League, with yet another win at Aldershot. on Saturday (13 August). In the sweltering heat the squad notched up a 6 point win over close rivals at the top of Division 2 West, Epsom and Ewell, and Aldershot Farnham & District.

On Saturday 6 August the HW 5000m Festival, complete with BBQ and music, brought the curtain down on the 2022 Summer Series of Distance Running at Wimbledon Park.

Congratulations to Jonny Cornish, who has been called up to run for England, not once, but twice – first, on 20 August, as part of the four-man team competing in the Asics Home Nations 5K in Bute Park, Cardiff and then again, barely a week later on 28 August, he will be part of a different quartet competing in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon.

HW will go into the fourth Southern Athletics League match of 2022 at Aldershot on Saturday 13 August having won the first three matches and topping the League with 661.5 match points over Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC on 603 points, keeping the Club on course for promotion.

Three of the Club's vets were in action at the World Masters Tampere in Finland and all brought home gold medals.

On the evening of the hottest day of the year so far Jonny Cornish clocked a fantastic personal best of 29:58.53 – his first time under 30-minutes – to clinch the bronze medal in the England Athletics 10,000m Championships, which rounded off the Fast Friday event at Walthamstow on 17 June.

The Club enjoyed another decisive victory in Match 2 of the Southern Athletics League on Sunday, 12 June, with Team Manager Keith Scofield urging the squad to keep the momentum going into the next match in Oxford on 16 July.
