Medal detectors
Rounding off one of the Club’s most successful Indoor seasons, In the Surrey Indoor Championships at Carshalton over the weekend of 1/2 March, Ryan Facey (below left) took the gold medal in the Senior Men’s 60m, with Monae Winston-Westfield taking the bronze in the women’s event. Jamari Roper also took gold in the U13 Boys 60m, with Angel Gutierrez-Bailey coming home for the bronze. U17 Maia Heward-Mills won gold in the 60m hurdles, and silver in the 60m flat.
There was an encouraging haul of medals in the field events. In the long jump, there was a gold medal for Oliver Mealor in the U17 Men’s competition and silver for Alexander Lewis in the U13 Boys event. U20s Charlotte Gurney and Visne Bariman, also won silver and bronze respectively, with Visne also securing the bronze in the high jump, while Christina Beharry took the bronze in the U13G long jump.
Zoe Jones won the U17W high jump, while Ariane Freemantle was also victorious in the U15 Girls triple jump, with U17 Olivia Ifeanyi-Nwobodo taking the bronze in the shot.
In the Senior Women’s events, there was a bronze medal for Florence Conerney in the long jump, and a bronze and silver for Heather Letley (W35) in the 60mH and triple jump. In the Senior Men’s events Mark Andrews (M35) won gold in the high jump and silver in the triple jump and shot, while Leo Johnson won bronze in the long jump.
Up on the Downs
In the final match of the Epsom Downs League on 2 March, the only cross country competition for U11s and a valuable first introduction to the country for new U13s, the U11 Girls clinched the title for 2024/25, with Chloe Mason and Rachel Wiseman finishing as second and third over the season.
School work
on 15 March, Theo Creed achieved a brilliant bronze in the Junior Boys Race in the English Schools Championships in West in Sussex.
